Case Study
Sampling App B2B2C Supersmart

Background
Supersmart, a top-notch B2B2C company in the world of frictionless checkout and retail loss prevention solutions, whipped up a nifty sampling app to make life easier for store staff when it comes to gathering data. This case study dives into how the app came to be, what it can do and how making it increased the whole process efficiancy.
At Supersmart, the validation process relies on a variety of data sources, including weight, to authenticate orders. The anticipated weight is cross-referenced with the actual weight of the order using a validation scale. To ensure seamless validation, it is advisable to record at least five individual item weight samples. This can be accomplished manually or through the utilization of a specialized mobile scale connected to the Supersmart database, which automatically updates the samples. Bluetooth connectivity allows for wireless sample collection, improving convenience and accuracy, and the app lets staff edit samples to ensure data accuracy.
The Challenge
Order Validation Precision: The app aids in ensuring order validation accuracy by comparing anticipated and actual weights, leveraging a validation scale.
Efficient Data Collection: It facilitates the collection of at least five item weight samples, either manually or through a connected mobile scale, streamlining the process.
Bluetooth Scale Integration: With Bluetooth scale connectivity, store employees can easily collect item weight samples wirelessly, enhancing convenience and accuracy.
Sample Management Flexibility: Store staff can edit existing weight samples within the app, ensuring data accuracy by rectifying any errors promptly.
Our main goal was to build the infrastructure and UX approach for all elements on app, to enable all users to easily sample product and carriers manually or by BT connection in the fastest and most efficient way.
Our ambitions were to start from the bottom-up: first solving the scanning at an element level, which is the main pain point ,then moving up to planning and create the fastest and easiest user's flows and interactions.

My Role
I led the UX of the project and collaborated with one other UXer. In addition, I worked closely with a Product Manager, alongside a UX Content Writer, Dev Team Lead and 2 Developers.
Research and user needs
In designing Supersmart’s sampling mobile app for attendants, our research focused on the needs and challenges of store staff in order validation. Supersmart, a leader in frictionless checkout and retail loss prevention, developed this app to streamline data collection by comparing anticipated and actual weights using a validation scale.
We began with observations, at actual supermarkets, where we closely monitored how identifying issues like manual data entry errors and inefficiencies. Interviews with store attendants, managers, and samplers personnel highlighted the need for a more efficient system. The app collects at least five item weight samples, either manually or via a connected mobile scale that updates automatically.
Bluetooth connectivity allows for wireless sample collection, improving convenience and accuracy, and the app lets staff edit samples to ensure data accuracy.
The Solution
Flexible Multilingual Support: Enhances scanning experience with a full-size screen for increased visibility.
Full-size Scanner Screen: Improved UI design for a more friendly and user-centric experience.
Optimizing User Journey and reduced sample's time spending on each sample.
User-centric experience and personalized Task MGMT dashboard.
Enhanced Flexibility to seamlessly integrate new features.
-
Product Weight Information: Instant access to the existing weight information for the sampled product
-
Bluetooth Mobile Scale: The app connects to a Bluetooth scale to assist the store employees collect item weight samples easily, and wirelessly.
-
Cart/Basket registration: The cart/basket is part of the order weight, therefore it needs to be registered and weighted.
-
Edit existing weight samples: Exsitng weight samples can be modified using the sampling app, in case incorrect weight samples were added by mistake.
